Summary

Patience can be such a difficult virtue because it usually costs us something, whether it be time, efficiency, or productivity. It means slowing down and forgoing something we want in the moment for the sake of someone else. And we all know forgiveness can be one of the most difficult responses especially when we’ve been deeply hurt or have lost something dear to us.  We’ll be reminded that we show patience and offer forgiveness because this is what Christ has shown us. We’re in for a meaningful episode as we talk about these two interconnected displays of Christ likeness. And for Cultivate listeners, we’re offering 25% off Kelly’s book The Fitting Room: Putting on the Character of Christ if you’d like to go deeper. Yeah. Access more. Hey there and welcome to the Cultivate Podcast. I'm Kelly Minter and I am so glad that you are here because we are right in the middle of one of the most practical series that I can think of.

1:01.7

This is a series called Putting on the Character of Christ, where we are really drilling down into Colossians chapter 3 versus 12 through 15 where the apostle Paul

1:12.9

tells us to wear a list of virtues that are very, well, they really just resemble the

1:20.4

virtues of Jesus Christ himself. And I'm loving this because they are all relationship oriented.

1:28.2

There's not one virtue that doesn't have to do with other people, that doesn't have to do with

1:33.6

how we treat others, and that doesn't have to do with impacting the relationships that we have.

1:40.5

So you may be joining us right in the middle.

1:43.2

And if that's the case, I would say just go back and find

1:46.9

episode 22. That's where we start this series because there is a really key foundation that is set

1:52.9

that Paul actually sets himself before he even gets to the virtues. He says, therefore, as God's

1:59.8

chosen, holy and dearly loved people put on these

2:05.5

virtues. The reason that I say that it would be so helpful to start with episode 22 is because

2:11.5

we need to be reminded that we are dearly loved by God, that we have been chosen by him,

2:16.6

and that we have been set apart for a purpose.

2:19.7

And when we understand that, the virtues will flow out of us more naturally. We don't practice

2:25.6

the virtues so that God will love us. We practice the virtues because we are loved, because
