Summary

Today's show is about a darkly named drink; the Obituary Cocktail. Made with gin, vermouth, and absinthe, it's origin is as mysterious as its name. Join me and author Sue Strachan as we discuss the drink, its origin, and where to sample one.

Whether you are planning a trip,

0:22.3

living in New Orleans, or simply wanting a taste of the Crescent City from wherever you are,

0:26.6

you've come to the right place. And now, your host, Mark Bologna.

Hey, all, this is Mark. Welcome to episode 237. Today's show is all about a cocktail that is death-themed, which is even more interesting than it sounds. The last show was about Parlein's. If you missed it, go back and give it a listen. People are really enjoying it, and I think you will, too. Before we jump in, let me talk about the people that make this show possible. We have two different kinds of tours on tap for you today. First up,

0:58.7

our friends at Two Chick's Walking Tours were recently awarded Trip Advisors Travelers' Choice Award,

1:03.9

which is presented to the top 10% of tour operators in the world. This is a designation they've

1:08.9

earned every year since they've been in business,

1:16.1

which is a noteworthy accomplishment, to be sure. The emerging fall season provides more opportunities to enjoy their well-designed small group experiences than ever before, with private tours also

1:21.1

available. Please consider them when planning corporate or personal events. Major publications

1:26.3

such as Southern Living, Harper's Bazaar, and Marie Claire all recommend

1:29.4

the small company's offerings be included in a well-planned New Orleans itinerary.

1:33.7

What I like is that they have several different tours.

1:35.5

They can do a garden district tour.

1:37.2

They occasionally do a brothels and bordellos tour in the French quarter, and they can customize

1:42.3

a tour.

1:42.7

So if there's an area of the city or something you're in particular interested in, they can do that for you. Another thing that I

1:49.0

really like is they keep their tour size groups small. So they won't go out with more than 12 people,

1:54.3

and if only a couple sign up, then only a couple sign up. But some of the other tours that you see

1:58.7

around town may have as many as two dozen people on a tour,

2:02.1

and the size really matters.
