00:26 – A brief overview of these chapters.

09:46 – Hebrews 1-7 touches on three central themes: the superiority of Jesus over the Law of Moses, the call for the followers of Jesus to become better, and the greatness of Jesus Christ.

20:51 – These chapters abound with temple imagery and extend an invitation to enter into the presence of God.

25:20 – Jesus surpasses the angels in greatness. Understanding the attributes of Christ is the key to knowing our Heavenly Father.

36:58 – Jesus came to earth to make reconciliation for the sins of mankind. He has a perfect understanding of our temptations and suffering.

45:03 – Hebrews was written to Jewish Christians who were wondering if it was really right to follow Jesus.

52:07 – “Let us hold fast our profession” relates to the things we proclaim about Jesus.

54:05 – “No man taketh this honor unto himself.” Around 172 BC, Menelaus controversially became the high priest by outbidding Jason. The author of Hebrews likely references this event to emphasize Jesus’ legitimate claim as the true high priest.

58:29 – Psalm 110 depicts Melchizedek as the great high priest, receiving God’s invitation to sit at His right hand. Hebrews further explores Melchizedek’s role. In the temple, the Saints are encouraged to follow this path and to become kings and queens after the Order of Melchizedek.

1:05:15 – Hebrews 6 warns the Saints to stay on the path following Christ. Joseph Smith told Isaac Behunin that those who join the Church have left neutral ground.

1:11:05 – Possible meanings of the “Two Immutable Things” discussed in Hebrews 6. Hope becomes an anchor to the soul for those that enter within the veil.

1:16:07 – Hebrews 7 discusses Jesus’ superiority to Melchizedek and Levi. Jesus is the Great High Priest.

Welcome to talking in scripture. I'm Mike and I'm Bryce and today we are going to be in the

0:27.8

book of Hebrews. Now Hebrews is partitioned off into two segments in this year's come follow me.

0:35.4

This time we're covering Hebrews 1 through 6.

0:38.7

Next time we will talk about Hebrew 7 to the end of the letter or the epistle to the Hebrews but because

0:45.5

Hebrew 7 is so pivotal in the argument that the author is making Bryce and I are

0:51.6

going to talk about Hebrew 7 today.

0:53.7

When we feel that it is valuable, now when it comes to authorship, if you go to the very

0:59.2

beginning, it says, the epistle of Paul, the Apostle to the Hebrews.

1:03.8

Now the epistle that Paul wrote

1:07.1

go from longest to shortest.

1:09.6

So right after the book of acts we read the first epistle to the Romans. Now it wasn't the first

1:14.5

one chronologically but it's the longest and then the letters get smaller and

1:18.7

smaller and smaller and then you come to the epistle to the Hebrews and it's a lot longer and that's because for many

1:26.1

years people have debated whether or not Paul wrote this document we really don't know. Now it does say in the title that it's written by

1:36.5

Paul but that's not found in any of the early Greek or Latin manuscripts. We don't

1:41.2

have this anywhere. All we have is to the Hebrews in the earliest

1:45.5

manuscripts that we have. In the church we don't really have an official stance on
