Recently I was asked what piece of advice I find myself giving all the time and it's this

people can be more than one thing. In so many of the stories that readers and listeners and clients and students share with me,

what keeps them feeling stuck is not being able to reconcile aspects of a person. So not being able to

reconcile who they thought someone was or who they decided someone is with who they actually are, with things that they do that seem

to contradict this idea, this perception.

And so it's like, but they could be so thoughtful and generous, so how can they also be the person who slept with someone behind my back and lied to me with such ease. Or they were there for me through my darkest moments

and knew me when I had nothing. So how can they also be the person who is messing with my head and

mistreating me? They're so talented or they've done so much for people so

how can they be guilty of this thing they're being accused of?

But they were such a family guy and he seems so nice.

I don't get how he could have done that to his wife and children.

We have such good times together. to his wife and children.

I don't understand why we're going through such a difficult time and how they're behaving.

They're so great with kids.

I don't understand why they wouldn't want to have one of their own.
