Summary

Intrinsic motivation: we talk about it’s importance, but let’s be honest, most people first step in the gym mostly or entirely for external reasons. That’s not always bad, but one thing is for sure, it needs to change over time, or at least be complemented by other forms of motivation, or inevitably lifters quit. Even when the shift is made to focusing on personal progress rather than external goals or standards, it can go wrong. Having something to continually improve upon or strive to achieve can provide a continuous staircase to personal improvement, but it can also be an overbearing presence invading every thought, making the inevitable plateaus experienced lifters face feel like failures. At these crossroads some lifters seek anabolic assistance, or quit. Sometimes one of these choices might be the right decision for an individual, but many times, both choices simply avoid the deeper issue. This deeper issue is also the reason some “noble” natties see themselves as morally superior to enhanced lifters, and why some spend so much time calling out those they believe to be fake. This is a deep one folks, well, once you get past the banter.

We are now reacting right after doing what some are calling the best interview with Dave Tate on the interwebs.

0:15.3

And this is interesting to me, my friend, because this is what someone said, you know, the last episode we had Dave Tate on.

0:21.1

He spoke about his lifting, his life, business, a whole variety of different topics.

0:25.4

And someone said, Kyle Houser, said, this is possibly the best interview I've seen with Dave

0:31.0

Tate.

0:31.4

I clicked for some training nuggets from the OG, but instead he gave a philosophy lecture and a

0:36.4

business masterclass.

0:37.7

Thank you so much, guys.

0:39.1

And Eric, I just found it interesting because we decided to try something a little new in that

0:42.6

episode, which was to let the guests speak.

0:45.3

I'm still iffy on it, moving forward.

0:47.6

It was an experiment.

0:48.7

It's kind of like, you know, everyone has their different period.

0:51.2

We had David Bowie in Berlin.

0:52.9

Like, it was a period that happened to experimental nature.

0:56.4

It's the jury still open. Yeah, I felt the same way about it. I felt like we workshoped something.

1:03.6

This one was received well, but honestly, as a scientist, I really need to see this be repeated so we can see that it's been replicated.

1:10.7

Right. I think it's

1:12.0

quite controversial the idea of having an interview-based podcast, bringing a guest on, and then

1:18.1

allowing them to speak for the majority of the time. So the fact that it was received well is
