Hello and welcome to Business 300. My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300 seconds about business.

We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

Let's keep this short.

Owning and managing a business keeps you busy.

There's a lot going on.

Simplifying things makes it easier to keep going.

All the work you are to do can be divided into two categories.

The first is building your business, or in the words of Genesis 215, working it.

This is growing, improving, and cultivating your company. I talked about working or in the words of Genesis 215, working it. This is growing,

and there are four things that were demanded of you, ambition, shrewdness, risk, and discipline.

Working it is growing your revenue, developing your systems, writing the processes,

training your employees. You're cultivating and taking dominion. You're making things better and bigger. If you own a business, a big part of what you do is work on the

business. But you aren't building in a threat-free zone. There are threats of sabotage and

negligence, both from within and without, mishandling customers that trusted you, bringing on board

the wrong customers, employees not following procedures that you painstakingly developed,

or adding the wrong people to your team are all examples of things you need to watch for.

So the second category of work that you are to do in owning a business is keeping it, work it, and keep it.

You build something, now you must maintain and protect it.

If what you built keeps breaking, you must perpetually rebuild the same thing without making any progress.

Or you can keep it from breaking.

Sisyphus' curse was the never-ending task of pushing the same boulder up the same hill, only for it to roll back down when he neared the top.
