Summary
How to use the cost benefit principle to make better decisions in your life and avoid regret
I use a cost: benefit calculation to decide whether something is actually worth doing.
It involves asking 2 simple questions:
What is the benefit of this action and does that benefit out weigh the cost?
This will help you decide when to stop fat loss, when to add a workout, when to buy another fluffy pillow... (you'll see)

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness podcast. Today, I am going to talk about |
| 0:07.4 | how to use the cost-benefit principle or calculation to make better decisions in your life |
| 0:14.8 | and to avoid regret. This is how I make all decisions, which is going to make me seem like such a geek, but that's |
| 0:22.6 | probably factually correct. So I'm just going to embrace that. Making decisions is hard, and we use |
| 0:33.2 | slash waste a lot of time thinking about making decisions. And the reason I think we spend so long |
| 0:40.5 | making decisions is usually fear of regret from making the wrong decision. And I actually really |
| 0:47.4 | like the saying even the wrong decision is better than no decision. So being stuck in that like no man's land or being extremely |
| 0:57.6 | indecisive is the worst place to be. You will spend far too long there procrastinating, trying to make a |
| 1:06.4 | decision when the best thing to do is to make a decision, embrace it, don't look back. If it was the |
| 1:12.5 | quote-unquote wrong decision, you'll likely learn something. And if it wasn't, then you're |
| 1:17.5 | much further on your way than if you'd spent ages constantly overthinking the same decision. |
| 1:24.7 | Using this principle to make decisions |
| 1:28.0 | will make the process of making decisions |
| 1:32.4 | much smoother, much easier |
| 1:35.2 | and I found that it avoids regret |
| 1:39.1 | and I think regret is like the worst feeling ever. |
| 1:42.9 | So I stole this calculation or people call it |
| 1:49.5 | a principle or calculation. It's an economics principle, but it can be applied to basically |
| 1:56.2 | any decision that you're making. So people will use it to make business decisions, but it can really, |
| 2:01.8 | like it's actually a really useful and quite rational way of making any decisions, especially |
| 2:08.9 | decisions that are quite emotive because it takes some of the emotion away from that. |
| 2:13.4 | So I use the cost benefit equation to decide whether something is actually worth doing. |
