Hi, this is Josh Marshall and this is the Josh Marshall podcast.

It is, what's the day to day? It's May 19th, 2021 and I think we continue to get good news on the COVID front.

We're still having this kind of freak out about, you know, what is, what's the status on masks and I guess the idea now is,

Tony Fauci was out, I don't know, some time last night or this morning or something like that.

Basically saying, you know, we didn't say masks were done. We just said that if you're vaccinated, you don't have to wear one.

And I guess there's still this kind of, I thought that was pretty clear, but it's also kind of seems clear that a lot of states are just saying,

you don't have to wear masks anymore in the part about, you know, it mattering if you're vaccinated seems to have kind of fallen by the wayside.

And that's, that's, that's kind of weird, but at least in the heavily vaccinated parts of the country, the cases continue to decline pretty, pretty rapidly.

So that's great. And the big news today is this is this commission or I, you know, I guess it's not really clear.

There is going to be a commission. So maybe that's the big news the day. But you've, we've had this, you know, for weeks, we were going on and on because I guess Nancy Pelosi wanted a, you know, a bipartisan commission, but one in which the Democrats had the dominant hand because they're the dominant party in Congress right now.

And Republicans, that was, you know, that was a, that was a non starter for Republicans. And at least there's, you know, there's, there's at least a hint of rationale for that because, you know, a bipartisan commission, the idea really there is that it's not just that it has members of both parties, it's, it's, it's equal.

Right. And that, and that is the, that is the, you know, to the center's a tradition of these things back to the, you know, back to the 9-11 commission.

And other commissions over time. I can't remember what the, what the deal was with the, with the Warren commission. Maybe this didn't seem as, you know, maybe both parties being involved wasn't, you know, kind of what didn't seem as salient, you know, shouldn't be controversial. The presence assassinated.

In any case, we, we obviously have that problem that has hung over this from the beginning that it is difficult to involve the perpetrators in the investigation.

This is, you know, this is a pretty, pretty elementary point. And that's the problem that one of the two parties did it. And so we have his problems from the very beginning. It's hard because one party did it.

And that makes it kind of hard for it to be bipartisan. One party did it. The leader of that party.

The ex president who still clearly the leader of that party. He did it directly.
