Summary

It’s been a hot minute since I released an episode but I’m back and ready to share a little bit of unconventional wisdom about learning to SLOWWWWW down and take a career break! Yeah, you heard me - a career BREAK! Sounds simultaneously terrifying and exciting, I know. But the reality is seasons of slowness, taking a step back and maybe even taking a full blown sabbatical should be as much a part of the conversation as goal setting and career advancement. If you’re feeling burnt out, stretched thin, uninspired, and unmotivated it may be time to consider slowing down and allowing your soul to recharge + reboot. On today’s episode I share: ⁃5 signs it’s time to slow down + maybe even take a career break ⁃How to overcome fears about taking a break and slowing down ⁃How to set yourself up to take a break / sabbatical  ⁃The benefits of entering a season of slowness I also share a little life update and why I haven’t released an episode in months (hint hint - there’s a tiny human growing inside my uterus! Hello 23 weeks!) Lastly, I share a little bit about my new 23-day Food Freedom mini-course, Hungry For Recovery launching July 7th, 2023! The course was designed for those who aren’t quite ready to dive into a full blown recovery program, but are ready to lay the foundation and finally get started on their food freedom journey with tangible tools and action plans that will help take you feeling from STUCK to UNSTOPPABLE.  Join the waitlist HERE to be the 1st to know when doors open! http://hungryforrecovery.jessijean.com

You know what I think needs to be normalized just as much as goal setting?

I think it's taking a career break or a sabbatical or intentional seasons of slowing down and resting,

rebooting, becoming rejuvenated and reinspired. We are a culture and a society that is obsessed

0:30.3

with achievement. We're a goal-oriented culture and society. And I think there's something

0:35.3

so beautiful about moving towards a meaningful goal. And I think there's something so beautiful about moving towards a meaningful

0:38.8

goal. And I think it's fulfilling and it's satisfying. But I also think so much of our spirit

0:44.1

needs seasons of rest and seasons where we become re-inspired, seasons of simplicity and slowness

0:51.4

and stillness, seasons where we sleep in, seasons where we focus on hobbies,

0:58.1

we focus on our mental health, and we just take a step back and we simplify our lives.

And that's what I've been doing the last number of months.

1:06.8

I haven't recorded a podcast episode for quite a few months.

A lot has changed in my life,

1:11.9

but I was experiencing quite a bit of burnout and apathy and disinterest in the things that

1:18.8

normally excited me and brought me, you know, so much meaning and fulfillment. I had been

1:24.7

feeling unmotivated, no drive, no excitement, just gray. And I will say a lot has

1:31.7

changed in my life the last few months. I'm pregnant, 23 weeks pregnant tomorrow. So the first trimester

1:38.0

totally kicked my ass. I was nauseous. I think I was dealing with a little bit of perinatal

1:42.1

depression. So that was definitely contributing

1:45.1

to the need I had to step back. But I think my spirit has also just constantly been in

1:52.1

overdrive. I've constantly been working towards the next goal, whether that's a career goal or a

1:57.4

financial goal or a relationship goal or, you know, an experiential goal, social goal,

2:02.7

whatever it is. I've always had a goal that I've been working towards. And I think my body,
