We are recording this episode about 20, 21 hours after the verdict in the George Floyd

Derek Chauvin trial. You know, a very historic moment. I think we can fairly say

the whole country's attention sort of held in suspense, particularly for a few minutes,

you know, for a while, yesterday afternoon. But in some ways, going on almost a year,

I guess it was, when the verdict came down, I was sort of a little jarred to hear that it had been

11 months. I was thinking, oh, maybe like eight months, that was sometimes during the summer or

something like that. Well, it was a little longer ago and we're a little further into this year.

As you know, Chauvin, you know, it's funny, one of the weird things about this last year,

and this is like, you know, the 110th most significant thing about this. But I realized,

before we started the episode, that I have been so isolated from electronic communications,

electronic media because of the pandemic. I basically don't watch any TV. I read a lot,

but I was realizing I wasn't 100% sure precisely how to pronounce this guy's name.

I know basically how to pronounce it. It's not like I've never heard it before, but I was just

realizing again, because everything for me is written media. You know, so probably like many of

you, I was waiting for the verdict yesterday afternoon with great apprehension, both because of

the significance and gravity of the case itself, and also because of the implications of
