Summary

Ten years ago Phillip Crosby and Jedidiah Jenkins set out on a bike trip that started in Oregon and traversed Central and South America and ended in Patagonia. Jedidiah, was an aspiring author at the time and was on the trip to have an experience worth writing about as he grappled with his sexuality and Christian faith. and I'm your host. And on today's episode, I'm talking with Philip Crosby, who went by the name

0:12.6

Weston in the book, To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedediah Jenkins. And if you haven't read this book, I'll give you a quick synopsis, but I won't give

But we're actually on the 10-year anniversary of when Jedediah and Philip set out on a bike trip that would start in Oregon and would take

He has aspirations of being a writer.

1:08.4

And part of his own journey is his grappling with his own sexuality

1:13.8

and how that relates to his life growing up as a Christian in a Christian family.

1:22.8

And so the story is very much written from the perspective of Jedediah.

1:29.2

It is his story.

1:30.4

It is his experience.

1:32.0

And it is his perspective from which the book is written through.

1:38.0

And on this trip, obviously, there's Philip, his friend, who in the book goes by Weston. And in today's episode, we'll talk about

1:47.3

why that might be and why the name was changed. So Weston is kind of a character in this book,

1:53.7

and he's one that I found myself really fascinated by and interested in. He has deep philosophical

2:00.7

thoughts on money and economics and politics and religion

2:04.8

and drugs or a.k.a. plant medicine. And he ended up leaving the trip early. I think after 10 months,

2:15.2

he departed. And again, I won't give away any spoilers. But I found

2:20.9

myself curious about this Weston character. I wanted to know more. I wanted to hear more of the
