Summary

I started following Lindsay Shepard's journey when I saw on social media that she had built her own bike frame and was planning to race on it. To my surprise the first race she signed up for was my East Texas Showdown! Right after that, she turned her van North East and did the Gravel Doom race, in Arkansas. When she finished that race, she wasn't done. She turned her bike around to ride the course in reverse. Thus becoming the first person to complete the DOOM Yo-Yo! For style points, she did it on a SS bike, that she built!!

Hello, friends, and welcome back to the Bikes for Death podcast.

0:03.8

As always, my name is Patrick, and I'm your host.

0:07.4

And on today's episode, I'm excited to be bringing you a chat with Lindsay Shepard,

0:14.3

who just became the first person to yo-yo the gravel doom route.

0:21.7

And for bonus points, she did it single speed.

0:25.9

I first learned about Lindsay through social media.

0:30.0

She went to a frame building school, built her own bike,

0:33.5

and I thought that was cool.

0:34.9

So I gave her a follow.

0:36.8

And shortly after that, she signed up for the East Texas Showdown and raced in it with the bike that she built.

0:46.4

So that was cool.

0:48.0

Then after that, she signs up for Gravel Doom on the same bike and does the yo-yo, as I mentioned, which in my book

0:56.0

warrants a interview. And I have to say that going into this interview, I was super excited

1:04.4

to talk to Lindsay, really interested in her story, how she built the bike, how the bike

1:10.1

performed, and then taking it on these two

1:12.8

bike packing trips and races and how did that go? I mean, to me, I'm like, this is really an

1:18.2

epic story. But I quickly learned that that was truly just the tip of the iceberg whenever it

1:24.8

came to Lindsay Shepard's story. And I was and am absolutely blown away

1:32.2

by her. Her lifestyle is awesome, the way she's prioritizing the things in her life, making sacrifices

1:40.0

or maybe not sacrifices, but choices in other areas to accomplish the lifestyle that she wants

1:45.8

to have. What kind of freedom that lifestyle allows her and the cool stuff she gets to do

1:51.9

and has done. And we kind of talk about all of those things, at least a little bit here and there,
