Summary

Eric House joined our community during the pandemic, like many others. However, two and a half years later, I don't think this pandemic-born-bike-baby is going anywhere, but up!

His first bikepacking race was the 2022 East Texas Showdown. He packed light, read "nothing", went fast, placed 9th, and learned a lot, but most importantly, he got hooked. This year he leveled up. He completed the MidSouth 50k run and the 100 mile gravel race. The next weekend he lined up at ETS and took 10th place, then a couple weeks later he went to Arkansas for the DOOM race and placed 9th there. For Eric, the year will culminate with an attempt at the infamous Leadville 100 in August.

Hello, friends, and welcome back to the Bikes for Death podcast.

As always, my name is Patrick, and I'm your host.

And on today's episode, I'm talking with Eric House.

0:11.6

Eric joined the cycling community during the pandemic like so many others.

0:18.0

He first competed in a triathlon, but quickly realized swimming wasn't his jam,

0:24.8

and he really fell in love with bikes and gravel riding and ultra endurance bike pack racing.

0:34.6

His first bikepacking race was the 2022 East Texas Showdown where he got ninth place.

0:41.7

Since then, he has only ramped up his efforts. This year in particular is a big year.

0:47.7

He started out his year at Mid-South where he completed the 50K run and then the next day

0:54.1

he did the 100-mile gravel then the next day he did the hundred mile

0:55.6

gravel race a week after that he entered the 2023 east texas showdown and got 10th place

1:03.7

and then a couple weeks after that he headed up to arkansas to compete in the gravel doom race. And he placed ninth place there. But for Eric,

1:17.3

placing isn't what's important. He's there to push himself to do his best and to commune with

1:24.4

some friends on the road and at the bar afterwards. So even though Eric's only

1:29.6

been a member of the community for a couple of years, he has certainly made waves. And I don't think

1:36.2

that this pandemic-born bike baby is going anywhere soon. Today we talked mostly about the East Texas

1:43.4

Showdown and Doom, but our conversation

1:46.3

meandered through lots of different topics, some of which I hope are informative,

1:51.8

others I hope are entertaining. So if you will, please pull up a camp chair and join us for

1:59.2

my conversation with Eric House.

2:02.7

Before we get to our chat, though, let's take a moment to thank the people that made

2:06.4

today's episode possible, starting with our latest batch of patrons.
