October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I have long wanted to have this conversation with my friend, stylist, and breast cancer survivor Bethany Winters. In 2016, at age 47, Bethany Winters was diagnosed with Grade 3 Stage IIB Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. What followed was a year of intensive treatment, including chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and total hysterectomy. 1:10.0	Bethany Winters for a long time now, so this feels like the perfect moment for this episode.
1:17.2	Bethany is here not only to talk to us about breast cancer awareness and personal screenings and mammograms and all of those important things,
1:26.0	but also about breast cancer survivorship.
1:29.0	And this is not something that I hear as much about
1:32.0	this side of the story. About 1 in 8 women, around 13% will develop
1:38.3	invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. And for women in the US, this is the most commonly diagnosed
1:45.0	type of cancer. However, death rates and diagnoses have been decreasing over the
1:51.2	last decades, in part because of awareness campaigns that have led to earlier detection.
1:57.0	So we really need people like Bethany sharing their stories.
2:01.0	Also, just so you know, about 85% of breast cancers
2:05.7	occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer.
