And so today for the end of the year, we are going to do an episode on really the pitfalls that can go wrong with dry January or taking a 30 day break, you know, specifically for the month of January, the New Year's resolutions.

0:53.7

That is so many people's intentions to just kind of cleanse and reset and enter into the New Year in a kind of different frame of mind without alcohol, but it can be harder than you think I speak from experience.

1:06.7

Yeah, I've done the same thing and I think we want to talk about the pitfalls. We also want to talk about how to get through it positively, right? So if you choose to do one of these things, what are the things to watch out for?

1:16.7

What are the things you can do to be successful and to actually make it a positive experience instead of just 30 days of gritting your teeth?

1:24.7

Awesome. So we have six things we're going to go through.

1:27.7

Number one, of course, the snake in mind is going to be mindset and mindset is the single probably biggest predictor of your success.

1:35.7

I think the biggest mistake people make is that they go into this thinking about what they're giving up.

1:41.7

So it's completely okay, I don't get to drink for the next 30 days.

1:46.7

I'm not allowing myself that and the things we tell ourselves are very much in the frame of lack and deprivation.

1:53.7

And if you look at like I listen to you or talk to people who do things like dry January or sober October and you know at the end of it, they're always saying like, oh, I learned a bunch like I feel better, right?

2:03.7

But at the beginning of it, they're upset and they're like, this isn't going to be very fun. I'm not going to enjoy it.

2:09.7

And like that first week is no good. And so one of the ways I like to talk to people about it is that if you want to come out of this, you know, with some positive lessons, whatever they are, right?

2:18.7

Maybe you want to come back, maybe want to do something different. Maybe you want to put all together.

2:22.7

Going in with that open mindset will get you more of that time to learn, right?

2:26.7

So instead of that first week, being really difficult and you know you being run be and unhappy, you can just be open to what you're going to see and what you can learn there.

2:35.7

And that's just can get you that much farther in those 30 days.

2:38.7

Absolutely. So for I like to paraphrase that is enter this with what you're going to gain, not what you're going to get up and really start to focus on the things that you can gain.
