Hello and welcome to Something's Off with Andrew Heaton. I'm your host Andrew Heaton and I don't care if you use

bumpers when we go bowling or not. The point of going bowling is for us to have fun.

Do you guys watch Rick and Mortie? I love that show. There's an episode where Rick is playing a game wherein he lives someone else's entire life and the first thing he does is go off-grid and set fire to his Social Security card.

My guests today haven't gone quite that far, but they've definitely unplugged from mainstream adult life.

Just a year ago, Chris Moody, a guest coming on in a minute, was a CNN correspondent living

in New York City.

Then about the time that I moved to Texas,

he and his wife sold everything they own,

souped up a van, and drove around the country

for an entire year.

I chat with Chris every couple of months, see how he's doing, and he'll pick up the phone

very happily tell me that he and his wife are vineyard hopping, or they're building a patio with

friends in California, or they're hanging out in New Orleans or constructing

something called an Earth ship in Puerto Rico and while that might sound

decadent or at least whimsical I have a suspicion that he and his wife might spend less money

vagabonding than I do living as a responsible neck-tigh adult here in Dallas

Texas. Me having a delightful classical liberal disposition, I am often concerned with how policies affect an individual's freedom.

But we should occasionally ask ourselves how much of the drudgery and responsibilities of life

are foisted on us by external forces, and how much of it is just a mirage that we are maintaining ourselves?

Can we take the red pill and escape the matrix and live a life where we wake up and work on our own schedule,

go exploring when we feel like it, be the captain of our own lives.

We'll find out.
