0:49.8 | and people may be like, well, I've never experienced trauma. Trauma is stress when your survival |
0:57.0 | brain perceives you to be powerless, helpless, or lacking control. That's what trauma is, |
1:01.8 | it's just stress with those three factors to it. And so you may go through something traumatic, |
1:07.7 | and like I always imagine like you have a cup, we all have different cup sizes based on what we |
1:12.4 | went through as children, what our parents went through, and when these things like sexual abuse, |
1:17.9 | physical abuse, neglect, whatever it looks like for your trauma gets put into your cup. |
1:23.7 | If you're not recovering after that traumatic experience, your cup is going to get fuller and |
1:28.9 | fuller until it overflows. And then you have the symptoms. And so for somebody who is struggling |
1:35.0 | with suicidal thoughts, I would want to help regulate their nervous system. I would want to help |
1:39.6 | try to empty that cup a little bit for them because that's where the healing takes place. |
1:44.4 | People don't associate past traumas from their childhood as their current symptoms, but the reality |
