Wherein, Sister Smith goes to priesthood session and what comes next.

Sister Smith was a missionary and had been for 18 months.

She was a diligent missionary working hard for the Lord.

Early on in her mission, being certain she would want to stay past her scheduled release

date, she expressed her desire to extend her mission to her mission president.

Seeing her good works, he agreed to pass the request on to his superiors.

The request was granted. If it hadn't been,

this story would likely never have taken place. Sister Smith was serving half a world

away from her home in Utah in a foreign land where English was seldom spoken. She loved the country in which she was

serving. She loved the people. She loved the language, finally. The language had been difficult at first,

but Sister Smith was not one to give up easily.

She learned the language well enough that the natives often commented on her fluency.

In April 1998, she was in her final area, her final transfer, her final spring in a country she loved so much.

It was only fitting that her zone was given a special opportunity.

Her zone was allowed to go to a neighboring zone where a general conference would be broadcast

nearly live. The time difference made it necessary to attend the sessions

late into the evening, so the priesthood session was to be broadcast on a tape delay on
