Summary

Government authorities should be obeyed, when they are doing their job of restraining evil so that citizens can do good. But when the government acts corruptly and fails to protect the people, that may be a time for civil disobedience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, churches across the country were deemed "nonessential," while institutions like strip clubs and smoke shops remained open. One particular pastor from Thousand Oaks, California decided that it was time for an act of civil disobedience, and while adhering to health precautions, he reopened his church as a place for community and spiritual renewal. This pastor, Rob McCoy, understood that the church was a placed ordained by God, and as such, fought back against the government to open the doors of the church. Like Rob, members of the family of faith need to constantly be asking ourselves what we can do to create a bright and hopeful future in this country. We need to be fighting for biblical values in a culture that desperately needs care for sinful hearts.
