Smith and Kelly Black. Hey friend, it's Kristen. Grab your scriptures and let's dive into Abraham 1

verses 1 through 2. The prophet Abraham grew up in a seriously troubled home. His family

had turned away from God and practiced pagan worship.

Abraham tried to preach to them, but his family rejected him and eventually his father sought

to sacrifice Abraham to pagan gods. Abraham recorded what happened next in what might be one of the

scripture's greatest understatements. Quote, I Abraham saw that it was needful for me to obtain another place of residence.

In the following verse, Abraham stated as purpose and moving, quote,

finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me,

I sought for the blessings of the fathers.

Obviously, Abraham wasn't talking about his biological father in this

verse. Rather, he referred to the great patriarchs, Adam, Enoch, and Noah, who held the priesthood.

I love Abraham's perspective of the gospel and priesthood in this verse. We're often guilty of looking

at the gospel as a never-ending to-do list. I have to read my scriptures. I have to pray.

I have to go to church. I have to do service. But Abraham saw far beyond all of the have-toes

and viewed them as get-to-dos. I get to read the scriptures. I get to take the sacrament.

I get to talk to my father in heaven. Abraham saw the gospel of Jesus Christ as filled with

opportunities rather than being oppressive, and so can we. So the takeaway of the day in five

words or less is, enjoy your gospel, get-to-do list. Thanks so much for being here today and for
