Hello and welcome to Big Picture Monday.

My name is Callie Black here with all the context you need to totally rock this week's

Come Follow Me readings.

This week is February 16th through the 22nd, and we are studying Genesis chapters 12 through 17, and Abraham,

chapters 1 and 2. Let's start by talking about the Genesis portion, because these chapters

start what's kind of considered the second half of the book of Genesis.

The first 11 chapters that we studied in Genesis really focused on the beginning of the world,

the creation of mankind, kind of establishing, we had the flood, we have the scattering with the languages,

and now we're here.

And now the second half, which starts here in chapter 12

and goes through the end of Genesis, focuses on patriarchs and matriarchs and covenants.

So we're going to learn about how God is gathering his people through his interactions with just a few specific families.

And we're going to go through these generations and we're going to track the family lines.

And we're going to see how the covenant is continually extended toward each new generation.

So what patriarch and matriarch are we going to start with? We are going to start

with Abram and Sarai. And if you're like, wait, Abram and Sarai, who are they? At the very

end of this week's readings, we're going to learn that after Abram and Sarai make a covenant with God, he gives them new names.

And so after the end of this week's readings, they will be called Abraham and Sarah.

However, just to stick with accuracy here, I am going to call them Abram and Sorai before that point,

up until they receive their new names from the Lord in conjunction with the covenant that he makes with them,
