0:27.6	Today we'll be telling the story of St. Wilfred, Bishop of York, whose feast is celebrated
0:31.9	on October 12th.
0:33.9	Wilfred was born around the year 633 in North Umbria, the area which is now North England
0:39.1	and southeast Scotland.
0:41.2	He came from a noble family but didn't get along very well with his stepmother.
0:45.4	So at the age of 14 he was sent to live in the court of Oswe, the king of North Umbria.
0:50.6	The queen took him under her wing and had him study at a monastery for three years, before
0:55.0	he traveled to Rome and Italy to continue his studies.
0:58.7	On his return to North Umbria, he stayed in Lyons, France for three years to study the
1:02.8	monastic life and became a monk.
1:05.5	When back in England he was appointed as the abbot of a monastery and placed it under
1:09.2	the Benedictine rule.
1:11.5	St. Wilfred continued to move all around North Umbria preaching, establishing monasteries
1:15.8	and was instrumental in bringing Roman liturgical practices to the area.
