0:33.1	Dominic was born on August 8th, 1170, and what is present day Castilian Spain.
0:39.0	He was named after another saint, St. Dominic of Seelos.
0:43.0	Before he was born, Dominic's mother had a dream that a dog leapt from her belly,
0:47.5	curing a flaming torch in his mouth, which set the whole world on fire.
0:51.8	The Latin words, Dominic Canis, also sounds like Dominicans, which is the order that was

0:59.7	At age 14, Dominic began his studies, and by age 24 was ordained a priest.
1:05.7	Dominic saw a need for a new type of order to address the spiritual needs of cities.
1:10.3	So in 1215, he traveled to Rome to gain approval from the Pope for a new order.
1:15.4	In 1217, he received permission to form the order of preachers.
1:20.0	In addition to preaching extensively against heretics, St. Dominic is also credited with
1:25.2	the spread of devotion to the rosary.
1:28.2	Since its founding, the rosary has been at the heart of the Dominican order.
