The Spirit is a person.

My first Bible was a red King James Version New Testament, given to me by the Gideons when I was

in the fifth grade.

When I became a Christian years later, I began reading it at night. So it was that I encountered

the phrase, the Holy Ghost. I had no idea what this meant, but the image was unnerving to say the

least. I later learned that in the days when the King James Version was translated, Ghost had the same meaning as Spirit. In the century's

sense, it has acquired a spectral sense, so that some people think of the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost

as a kind of Casper the friendly God. Of course, the Holy Spirit is anything but a human deceased spirit, nor is he an impersonal

neuter or it.

He is not a presence.

The Holy Spirit is a third person of the Trinity, and is just as much a person as the Father

and the Son.

According to Scripture, the Spirit has knowledge.

The Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God,

for who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person which is in Him?

So also, no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2, 10 and 11. The Spirit has a will and makes decisions. All these spiritual gifts

are empowered by one and the same Spirit who apportions to each one individually as he wills, 1 Corinthians
