In honor of Pride Month, the Boston Public Library has scheduled nineteen drag queen story hours, while the New York Times is recommending LGBTQ-themed comic books and graphic novels for children and teenagers. The decades-long drive to normalize LGBTQ ideology is working, but their cultural success will not be achieved until anyone who disagrees is seen as abnormal and dangerous. But the deeper concern is not merely cultural change—it is how easily we can grow silent about biblical truth and begin to question God’s word on one issue, making us more likely to do so on others. If you think this conversation is irrelevant to your life, that very thought may prove otherwise.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. A parasitic fly that eats animals alive has been found in Mexican sheep thirty-one miles south of the US border. The New World screwworm lays eggs in wounds on any warm-blooded animal. When the eggs hatch, the larvae burrow through living flesh, eventually killing the host. Like a screwworm that eats living flesh, sexual sin destroys our minds, marriages, society, and souls. In what ways are Christians especially susceptible to sexual temptation? After three seasons and twenty-six episodes, the HBO series Euphoria officially ended last night. The show has been widely criticized for its pervasive nudity and pornographic content. While many Christians already avoid sexually immoral shows and media content like this one, this topic is still highly relevant—for me, for you, and for everyone else—for a reason I had not considered before writing this article. Today, we discuss three facts about sexual sin, the historical context of lust in the New Testament, and ask the question, Does sexual sin damage people and society more pervasively than any other sin?About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Earlier this week, Pope Leo XIV presented his first encyclical: a letter from the pope to the Catholic Church and its leaders. The document, titled Magnifica Humanitas, or “Magnificent Humanity,” outlined his thoughts on technology—with a specific focus on artificial intelligence—and called for remembering the importance of people as we integrate it into our lives. Rather than artificial intelligence conquering humanity on its way to taking over the world, Leo suggests a far greater risk is humanity giving up our position in God’s created order and elevating our own creation instead. Is he right? Let’s take a closer look.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Iran said this morning that it had targeted a US air base in response to recent US military attacks. According to Forbes, a deal over the Strait of Hormuz now “hangs in [the] balance.” Hours earlier, President Trump signaled that an agreement between the two sides wasn’t close. The global oil benchmark soared above $98 per barrel early this morning after reports of the attacks emerged. When Americans were captured at the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979, ABC News covered the ongoing crisis under the title, “America Held Hostage.” It seems we have been held hostage to Iran ever since. Why can’t the West solve this problem in a permanent way?Today's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison. The narration was generated using an automated voice as part of an ongoing evaluation. Sen. Tammy Duckworth has condemned a Memorial Day social media post by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) that featured the images and names of thirteen soldiers killed during the military conflict with Iran. After similar criticism on both sides of the aisle, the DNC deleted the post. From then until now, politics in America have often been practiced on a level approaching religious fervor. Our next election season begins as soon as the last election is over. Our era of 24/7 news coverage, social media, and narrated algorithms turns up the heat even further. Last Saturday, a paraglider in Austria was floating along when a Cessna 172 flew overhead and shredded her sail to pieces. The woman began spinning and plummeted to the earth before pulling her emergency chute. In the caption of her now-viral selfie video, Sabrina writes that May 23 will always be like a second birthday to her, since she knows how lucky she is to be alive. But like Sabrina, I have had a second birthday. If you are a born-again believer, the same is true for you. The key to the Christian life is to experience every day what we experienced on that day. Christians are used to our religious holidays being preempted for secular purposes. Nonetheless, we should be surprised that even a secular holiday such as Memorial Day has been secularized as well. Many Americans conflate Memorial Day with Veterans Day and think they are intended to fly flags and feel patriotic sentiments in honor of all our military. Many will not even be this reflective, spending today as the “unofficial beginning of summer” with backyard barbeques and similar holiday activities. It is especially ironic that a day intended to commemorate the sacrifice of our military heroes has been sacrificed in this way. There is a spiritual lesson here for us, one that transcends the day and its history.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The Justice Department announced that it was charging Raúl Castro, the ninety-four-year-old former leader of Cuba, with murder and conspiracy to kill American citizens. The allegations stem from Castro’s role in authorizing the Cuban military to shoot down two American planes operated by Brothers to the Rescue in 1996. The Trump administration’s interference with foreign regimes has a mixed record of success, from early hope with Venezuela to ever-worsening conflict with Iran. When the time comes for change in Cuba, where it falls along that spectrum will likely depend upon how well the Trump administration has learned from its past mistakes. In the day’s news, we are invited to put our hope in religion, politics, medical science, artificial intelligence, or future generations—but each continues to reveal its limits. By contrast, Jesus never glossed over the cost of discipleship, warning, “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” Yet “as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too,” as suffering drives us from self-reliance into deeper dependence on the Spirit. Nicholas Kristof’s recent New York Times article alleging widespread Israeli sexual violence has sparked fierce debate. Still, the greater danger is the “fallacy of false equivalence” that leads many to conclude Hamas and Israel are morally the same. In a culture increasingly shaped by collectivism, it becomes easy to see all Palestinians as terrorists or all Israelis as oppressors, even though Scripture reminds us that “the soul who sins shall die” and that every person is an immortal soul for whom Christ died. The more personally we experience the living Lord Jesus and his transforming love, the more passionately we will want to share it with our lost world.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. In 2024, the Russian ship MV Ursa Major sank about 60 miles off the coast of Spain. While the loss was noteworthy, the world moved on pretty quickly. However, CNN released new details on the incident that point to the nuclear nature of the ship’s true cargo and a Western plot to ensure that it never reached its final destination. The question remains who sunk the vessel in the first place, especially during a time when NATO was trying to avoid giving Russia a reason to push harder into Ukraine. But there are times when doing nothing poses the greatest risk. Some of the hardest times to follow God’s will are when we can think of all the ways doing so could go wrong.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. A grieving father recently climbed the tallest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales wearing a twenty-two-pound vest, the same weight his daughter Zoë was when she died of cancer at nearly two years old. His decision illustrates the fact that leverage is central to life: the question is the ends we choose to serve. Satan leverages our circumstances for the worst possible outcomes, while Jesus is the master of leveraging our circumstances for the best possible outcomes. The challenge is whether we will use what we’ve been given to glorify ourselves—or to become the kind of people who “turn the world upside down” for the kingdom of God.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Seventeen Americans who evacuated from a cruise ship hit with a deadly outbreak of hantavirus have arrived in the US early this morning. Officials continue to assure us that risks to the general public remain low. We may not want to discuss such distressing news, but as Tennessee Williams reminded us, “Not facing a fire doesn’t put it out.” This is a principle that relates not just to the news but to our souls. Isaiah 1:18 says: “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord.” This is God’s invitation to struggle with our faith, to wrestle with him in our minds and hearts. To this end, today we discuss five practical principles that have helped me over the years with this invitation.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Hantaviruses, named after a river in South Korea, are a family of more than twenty different viral species. Almost all are linked to infection by rodents, typically rats and mice, through dried urine and droppings. One strain, however, known as the Andes virus, is thought to spread by human-to-human transmission, although rarely. But this week, a cruise ship called the MV Hondius has made headlines because of another suspected hantavirus outbreak onboard that has killed three people so far and made several others very sick. Millions of Christians around the US will pray for our nation personally and in gatherings with other believers. To a skeptic, this must seem an unprovable assertion, a self-fulfilling prophecy akin to a horoscope. Such skeptics are right: we cannot prove to them, or even to ourselves, that time spent in prayer today or any other day is warranted, that the God to whom we pray is the God we believe him to be. However, today we discuss how our inability to prove our faith through reason invites us to focus less on what we “too much discuss” and “too much explain,” as T. S. Eliot noted, and more on the God who should be the object of our worship and service.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. As Politico reported yesterday, Indiana’s Republican primaries were “the first big test for whether the president still has an iron grip over his party.” The reason: last December, despite the president’s strong urging, nearly a dozen GOP state senators refused to redraw Indiana’s congressional maps. Seven of these lawmakers were targeted yesterday as Mr. Trump’s allies spent nearly $10 million combined against them; the president also endorsed a candidate running for an open Senate seat. Not in living memory has a single politician so unified both parties as Donald Trump has. However, I think there’s more at work here, a factor that applies to every Christian, whatever our political beliefs. What is the secret to her abiding popularity? According to Time, her ability to connect with the frustrations and sadness so many people feel makes them “feel seen.” If the latest research is to be believed, the audience for such empathy is only growing these days, as reports show lowest records in the US for self-reported happiness, worker satisfaction, and consumer sentiment. King Charles III addressed a joint session of Congress this week, speaking of the Christian faith as “a firm anchor and daily inspiration” that guides both individuals and communities, a reminder that our “democratic, legal, and social traditions” are rooted in something deeper than politics. As our Founders understood, the true power of the nation lies not in government but in the “indispensable supports” of “religion and morality.” The problem comes when we settle for an evangelicalism that is content to know our souls are saved but busy inside the “bastions” of our counter-cultural social monasticism.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived yesterday in Washington, DC, where the king will address both houses of Congress today. The first visit of a reigning monarch to the US was similarly pragmatic, hoping positive coverage of the 1939 royal tour would win support for an Anglo-American alliance against Nazi Germany. Now commentators are watching to see if King Charles and President Trump can repair the relationship between the two nations damaged by differences over the war with Iran. This week, we’ve discussed the power of Scripture to change hearts and lives when we submit to its truth in accountable community. Let’s apply this discussion to the most crucial moral issue of our time: abortion. Our society is convinced that illegality should be defined by harm done to others (as with LGBTQ behavior). But in such a culture where sons and daughters are sacrificed, it is especially critical that God’s people embrace and advance biblical morality, whatever the cost to ourselves. Reading the Scriptures can be a powerful encounter with the voice of the living God. But the Bible must be applied if its truths are to be transforming. Our nation was founded on the declaration that “all men are created equal” and it should be possible for us to live with holistic holiness, completely obedient to every dictate of Scripture. There’s a lot more to Christian teaching than just the gospel, but it’s crucial that we keep a clear view of where we should draw that line. When God chooses not to intervene in our suffering, we can be tempted to doubt his character—and some doubts are more visceral than others, as we’ll explore today.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. As the Tax Project website explains, this is the day when you have earned enough to pay your combined federal, state, and local tax contributions for the year. For the rest of the year, you can finally begin working for and paying yourself. On one hand, I’m grateful for the benefits of the taxes I pay. On the other hand, it feels liberating to think that everything I earn from this point forward is mine to do with as I wish. These two “hands” go together. We have the freedoms we experience in America in significant part because we pay for them by supporting the governmental agencies who do for us what we would otherwise have to do for ourselves. I believe this capitalistic mindset to be the greatest single impediment to spiritual awakening in the Western world.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. President Trump posted an image Sunday evening on Truth Social depicting himself that many across the political spectrum protested as sacrilegious. One writer called the post “blasphemous” and “reprehensible.” Conservative pundit Carmine Sabia stated, “As a Christian, I’m offended by this, and I don’t know how any Christian would not be offended by this. There is only one Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mocking him is not OK.” Though the post has now been deleted, its caption claimed, “America has been sick for a long time. President Trump is healing this nation.” No, he’s not. But not for the reasons you might think.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. US stock futures fell and oil prices rose this morning after President Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. His statement came after marathon talks with Iran failed to reach an agreement that would end the war. In better news, Russia and Ukraine observed a truce in their war across the Orthodox Easter weekend, but only for the weekend. Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? You won’t be surprised to learn that apparently unsolvable problems like war not only cause significant stress, but worrying about them also impairs cognitive functioning and makes things worse. But when we choose the opposite of control, we discover the transforming hope available to every anxious heart today, including yours.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. New information continues to emerge in the remarkable story of how the American pilot shot down in Iran was rescued on Easter. In the press conference announcing the operation’s success, President Trump alluded to a top-secret device called the “Ghost Murmur” and, depending on who you talk to, it is either a quantum leap in our ability to detect electromagnetic signals like a human heartbeat or a gross exaggeration based more in science fiction than in real science. Most of us understand all too well how difficult it can be to filter out the noise in our lives today.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The Artemis 2 crew is scheduled to return to Earth tomorrow, splashing down off the coast of San Diego, California, around 8:07 p.m. ET. As the Economist reports, they are “returning to a planet they have cheered up.” We have needed to be “cheered up,” to be sure. However, while psychiatrist and philosopher Iain McGilchrist agrees that our cultural crisis is first and foremost spiritual, he warns that a spiritual approach that is individual and purely personal will not be enough to meet the crises of the day.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. President Trump announced on Truth Social late yesterday afternoon that he would “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks” subject to Iran’s “agreeing to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz.” But while much with Iran has changed in a day, much has not. Earlier this week, Iranian officials had called on young people to form human chains around the country’s power plants. Iran’s leaders are once again willing to sacrifice their people to protect their regime. Conversely, they believe that America will not attack civilians as they do. What explains the difference? The answer points to the one change in Iran that can secure its true peace in the present and beyond.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Request your choice of Wrestling with God today!Article DescriptionFour astronauts aboard Artemis 2 are on their way home this morning. They broke the record for human travel on Monday afternoon, flying more than 248,655 miles from Earth and surpassing NASA’s Apollo 13 mission in 1970. Victor Glover Jr. is the pilot for the mission and was the first Black astronaut to complete a long-term stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The part of Victor Glover’s story I want to highlight today, however, is his faith. In an interview, he stated, “In the military, there’s a saying that there are no atheists in foxholes. There aren’t any on top of rockets, either, I would think.”About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Last Friday, an American F-15E fighter jet was hit by incoming fire and crashed inside Iran. One of the two crew members was quickly rescued. According to the Wall Street Journal, what came next was “one of the most complex search-and-rescue efforts for the US Air Force in enemy territory in decades.” Sunday morning, President Trump announced that the “highly respected colonel” had been rescued and is safe. Why would the US go to such lengths to recover a single pilot? The answer says much about our nation’s past and our collective future.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Delta Flight 104, with 272 passengers and 14 crew, had just departed São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport on Sunday when flames shot out from its left engine. Passengers screamed for the pilots to “turn around” the jet. They immediately declared an emergency, shut down the affected engine, and circled back to the airport, landing safely shortly after departure. Video from inside the cabin shows passengers erupting into applause and cheers when the aircraft came to a stop. If you could speak to the pilots, what would you say to them today? A year from today? On this Good Friday, we discuss how God is both love and holy for paying our debts and why the price of our salvation was death in the first place. Recent studies show that eighty million Americans believe a spiritual revival is coming to our nation. Of those participating in the survey, young adults (statistically the most unchurched generation in history) are surprisingly the most likely to agree. Jennie Allen, founder of IF:Gathering and Gather25, said the desperation many young people feel is fueling their spiritual openness, recalling one student who said, “I never knew God loved me.” Maundy Thursday reminds us that Jesus included even those who would fail him at the Last Supper—and he invites us as his bride, for “as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.”About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The US Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Colorado’s ban on LGBTQ “conversion therapy” for young people infringes on the free speech rights of a Christian counselor. Their ruling reversed a lower court’s decision that had upheld the law. However, the news is not all positive on the religious liberty front. But if you’re not a Christian counselor who seeks to share biblical truth with your clients or an evangelical living in the Middle East, Finland, or India, such threats may seem too distant to be personal. Here’s why they’re not, and why this day in Holy Week is especially significant for our souls.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. My wife and I drove past a “No Kings” rally in our city last Saturday, where we saw a sign that said, “Be kind!” Another announced in rainbow colors, “Love wins!” Next to them, paradoxically, a man was waving his hand-lettered whiteboard, “[expletive deleted] Trump!” This bipolarity is reflected and empowered by the media daily. As history proves and contemporary culture shows, we can be as dogmatic in our politics and opinions, as self-reliant and self-righteous, as those with whom we fervently disagree. But when the salt loses its saltiness and the light hides under a basket, the world is impoverished.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Give today and receive your copy of Dr. Jim Denison’s Biblical Insight into Tough Questions vol 5Article DescriptionMore than 3,200 “No Kings” rallies were held Saturday across the US. Event organizers estimate more than eight million people attended protests against President Donald Trump’s actions and policies. The name reportedly comes from organizers’ belief that Mr. Trump is acting like a monarch rather than the leader of a democracy. America is the only nation “founded on a creed,” as G. K. Chesterton observed, the declaration that “all men are created equal.” But this passion for personhood and unhindered freedom comes at a cost, one that jeopardizes our willingness to “fear the Lᴏʀᴅ” as the psalmist advises.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. Article DescriptionEarlier this week, a court in California ruled that Facebook’s parent company, Meta, and Google’s YouTube were liable for damages of $4.2 million and $1.8 million, respectively, after a 20-year-old woman sued the companies for creating products that she claims led to anxiety, depression, and a host of other problems in her life. What sets the latest suit apart is that these companies were not sued for their content, they were sued for their algorithm—and that, apparently, makes a big difference. Cultural change, like how we view social media in regard to our health, often happens slowly until enough momentum gathers to bring real transformation. The same is often true in our lives as well.About Denison Forum and The Daily ArticleToday's Daily Article was written by Dr. Jim Denison and narrated by Chris Elkins. The purpose is to install more powerful telescopes, mine elements that are rare on earth but abundant on the moon, and allow for further technological advancements through residual inventions, just as it was after our last trip to the moon in 1972.
