I love this guy. This is a real life friend. This is a brilliant person who's also a good person and

actually my guest today went to college with my lifelong best friend and creative partner David Levine,

even though they weren't close in college, they knew of each other and knew each other

were both on this path as writers, that they had very different experiences there.

Elwood wrote an incredible novel right out of college called If I Don't Six.

He wrote a book of short stories that is one of my favorite modern books of short stories called What Salmon?

No. I wish you could make a living as a short story writer. Modern Books of Short Stories called What Salmon, no.

I wish you could make a living as a short story writer because it kills me that I don't get

to read his short stories anymore.

And has had an illustrious career in the television business.

Currently, he is the creator showrunner executive producer of

Bark skins on National Geographic which Elwood Elwood read everybody Elwood you really did something here man on the show it has a tone a point of

view it is super compelling the performances are great and every second of it I watched made me so happy I wasn't the guy who had to go there and make this show

That gets high praise do that, because you know, you always, I think when you're on the other side of the curtain and aze, we're constantly putting ourselves, I think, in other persons shoes going, how would I have done that could I have done that

I know I do that with your show I mean likewise I could not have done your show I know that and that's New York and it's cush I was in the woods I just just dealing with this sort of like scale and feeling responsible for talking about New York City that's something I know I can't do. So I'll take the would you take the fucking city.

Right, no, that's a fair deal.

No, no, I mean, it's fascinating the way we pick our subjects.

And I mean, I was talking to Levine about this like watching your show how far and I mean it's funny Levine can do anything Levine could go work on your show

But I I know that I couldn't and in the same way that I remember you read the script of billions you gave us some really good notes on it but but I remember you saying

You know I have a really hard time understanding the north star of this show because it was so far from what and then you really dig the show once it was a

show but you were like getting your arms around those particular concerns with those kind of people
