We are continuing our series right now on current questions and Bible answers.

And today we come to a question that is not only a current question, it is an ancient question.

In fact, for centuries, good people, God's people, Bible students, have discussed and debated this particular subject.

And to be honest with you, there's a great deal of discussion about it at this present time.

It seems to come in waves, and there are current trends, there are cultural trends, and there are also theological trends.

And every generation has to grapple with certain things the particular

question at hand today is concerning the subject of what the bible calls a predestination and election

now those are both bible terms and if someone said to me do you believe in election do you believe in predestination

my first answer is is that in the Bible and the answer is yes and I want to tell you right

up front if it's in the Bible yes I believe it but it's very important that we

define our terms from scripture. Because so often people

come to the Word of God bringing their presuppositions and their ideas and their theological

context and constraints and applying that to the text. We must never approach any portion of

scripture that way or any subject that way.

Let me say right up front before I begin this discussion today, there's no way that something that's been debated for centuries and sincere people have disagreed on is going to be answered in just a handful of minutes.

But I'd like to give you a few principles that I think will help you deal with this subject.
