Summary
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! PART TWO
Step beyond the rusting gates of Michigan’s infamous Eloise Asylum, a place where more than a century of pain, hope, and human suffering may still echo through its crumbling corridors. Founded in 1839 as a poor farm and psychiatric hospital, Eloise eventually grew into a massive 902-acre complex with 75 buildings, housing thousands of society’s forgotten at its peak.
Its history is filled with overcrowded wards, brutal treatments, and stories of lives forever changed within its walls. And when mental health budget cuts in the 1980s helped bring Eloise to an end, many believe the silence that followed only made the lingering energy there impossible to ignore.
We explore the dark legacy of Eloise Asylum through the eyes of former staff, historians, and paranormal investigators who say the stories didn’t end when the doors closed.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to part two of our conversation with Todd Bonner of Detroit Paranormal about the |
| 0:04.8 | haunted Eloise Asylum. As it was sitting empty early on and it was very much, you know, |
| 0:10.9 | nobody can go in these buildings. They're just going to sit here. Do you remember specifically |
| 0:16.3 | what were some of the stories that were going around in detail beyond just oh unexplained |
| 0:23.2 | knocks or i saw somebody in the window any specific accounts that come to mind that you have |
| 0:30.4 | heard about the facility over the years and when it was vacant well um i had my own first really my first paranormal experience. In 1987, I was in high school. I was a junior in high school. We used to sneak into Eloise. And there was probably 40 buildings still up at that point. They didn't tear the majority of them down. We'd park across the street, walk in, we'd go in the tunnels. There's a vast tunnel system that connected all the buildings that would open up into a temporary morgue in the middle of the complex. Huge, huge underground facility. So we went to one of the big buildings. It was around 400,000 square feet. It was a J building. Girl I was dating at the time when I broke out. There's about five or six of us. And it was, again, you have that. I've always loved that feeling of fear for some reason. I can't exist. It's like a rush to me. Even back when I was younger. So we went to the basement of this building and there was files and files and patient files. Boxes of them everywhere from the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. |
| 1:30.0 | So we're looking through the files. |
| 1:32.5 | I hear a male voice say, what are you doing? |
| 1:36.2 | You have to get out of here. |
| 1:37.8 | And so I turned real quick. |
| 1:39.3 | And then my girlfriend at the time said, who was that? |
| 1:43.3 | I said, I don't know. I'm just glad someone else heard it |
| 1:45.8 | but at that even at that moment I knew that it wasn't someone there it wasn't it was a voice but it |
| 1:52.2 | wasn't a human like in this time voice so we went around looking and um calling out to everybody |
| 1:59.1 | and there was no response we ended up finding the other small group of people were on the completely the other side of the building, not even close to us. |
| 2:06.8 | And there was nobody in that basement with us. |
| 2:10.5 | So I didn't say anything because that was 1987. |
| 2:13.1 | My dad was a police officer. |
| 2:15.0 | I kind of kept it to myself and my girlfriend told the group of people, |
| 2:18.0 | because again, there was no one to say, hey, I think I heard a ghost, and I felt, it felt odd. |
| 2:23.7 | It was odd. The energy was different when that happened. We kind of ran out of there. We didn't |
| 2:28.6 | really linger around too long. I ran and got everybody else. We searched and we didn't find anybody. |
