More than anything, it’s a grounded conversation for people who are in the middle of it — business owners, leaders, parents, and anyone betting on themselves and trying not to crash and burn in the process. We touch on topics that are relatable for any coach, teacher, leader, entrepreneur and anyone else who puts skin in the game. This podcast is for everybody who is fascinated with solving people problems.

0:36.2

So if you're in the no nonsense type who appreciates frank conversations, advice you can put to use immediately and learning how others navigate the messy realities of leadership, you're in the right place. I'm glad that you're joining us. Let's dive in. All right, let's get into it. There is a lot to update you guys on. So this is going to be an episode that's gonna hit on a variety of things, because I figured,

1:06.2

we usually try to do topical episodes,

1:08.5

keep it nice, clean, neat, so that you have something to reference whenever you wanna come back to the podcast, right? That's one of the strengths of it is I think you can use it in an evergreen fashion. We're all gonna deal with people that are difficult in their own way. all have different ways that we can continue to go back and

1:23.6

introspect. So just a quick reminder, if you're new to the

1:27.5

podcast, we have so many episodes on how to learn more effectively, how to listen better, how to deal with people that are kind of borderline narcissistic, although we all have narcissistic elements. That's a therapist term that has gotten turned around and wielded in very odd ways. We'll say that. How to get by in with somebody that feels kind of closed down. How to improve relationships or conversations with your kids or your spouse or your coworker. So make sure to check these out. Today, the first thing I want to start with is just giving you a little bit of something that I would don't know that I'd call it motivation, but hopefully something that just gives you a sense of support. Then I'm going to give you an update on my next book because there's some exciting stuff around that. And then we've gotten more and more folks coming into our mentoring services that are going out on their own and still just kind of want some kind of filter to help them better understand, hey, do I actually have something here? Is this a smart business or is this a smart way to brand myself? I don't want to put myself out there and waste all this money and make a mockery of myself. So give me some feedback. Now, please work with me. I understand I still sound a bit nasally. I'm still absolutely inhaling cough drops. Had a pretty nasty upper body and upper respiratory infection that I've been fighting, but we're gonna get into it. First and foremost, I have gone through the last two and a half, three years, a wild season of life. Wild stuff, many of you know I've talked about my divorce pretty openly. We have the compound that's being built on our property. We had our fair share of issues with that construction crew and delays and and issues with that at the same time stuff with my doctorate and my next book and being a dad on top of that. And I know any all of you have your own version of these things. So you don't need me to hold your hand and tell you to keep going. I know you're all strong, capable people. This isn't that kind of podcast, but it is good to have reinforcement. Sometimes from somebody that's been through it, eaten their fair share of blood, turns everything else metaphorically. Of course, just you have to remember that no matter what you are going through, the math is always going to favor you if you just continue to put your head down, adapt, and go forward the best you can.

3:45.8

Some days that really doesn't feel like much. Some days for me that was rewriting a chapter. Some days that for me that was just making sure we got our next newsletter out that we got our next podcast out. Some days it feels like I didn't even get to do my job. And I was so busy talking to accountants and lawyers and contractors. I almost pray. I just be like, hey, when can I get back to doing the things that I think I'm amongst the best in the world at? When can I quit putting out fires and not have this drama? And it's good to kind of lose it in a manner of speaking for a minute and let yourself get angry, let yourself get frustrated, and then just get back to work.

4:25.2

And don't try to do something heroic.

4:27.1

I think that such BS, just try to do anything. Some of you that are trying to write a book, write another sentence. Some of you that are starting a business, think about one thing you can put on your website. Some of you that feel like you're drowning in text messages and haven't gotten back to your friends in a while, just responded to her three of them.

4:44.7

You have to chip away,

4:45.9

because this world will absolutely,

4:48.6

absolutely bury you. It will make you feel not good enough. It will make you feel like you're not quote unquote optimize enough. It will make you feel like you didn't take the correct path or say the right thing. And at some point, you've just got to be able to, you know, show your fangs and say whatever, Like this is where I'm at. This is what I'm gonna do.

5:05.8

I don't care about all this other bullshit.

5:07.8

Put blinders on and let me just chip away at it. Otherwise, you're always gonna second guess yourself. And I just think that even if you've been through something the last two years, three years, four years, shit, if you've had a past decade, is long as you are not playing the victim cards,

5:22.6

something is gonna come from that.

5:23.9

As long as you're taking action every day.

5:26.6

It's normal for some people, all of us, we self-sabotage. is long as you are not playing the victim card, something is gonna come from that. As long as you're taking action every day,

5:26.6

it's normal for some people, all of us we self sabotage. You're gonna hit a streak or maybe you didn't work out and maybe you didn't do this and now it looks like you're really spiraling. And maybe you worked for a while, but just get back to doing what's the next right thing I can do.

5:41.5

Okay, I'm gonna get in the shower.

5:43.0

Okay, I'm gonna answer that email.

5:44.6

Okay, I'm gonna get to that workout.
