Summary
This is a rerun of an episode that originally aired in 2019.
"Odyssey of the Twelfth Talisman" (September 28, 1985)
Once upon a time, there was a Saturday morning cartoon based on Dungeons & Dragons, and in its final few episodes it had one of its male characters hit it off with a one-off NPC who was witty and matched him, insult for insult. This one-off also happened to be male, and whether by accident or whatever, the resulting episode plays out kinda like a male-on-male romcom that just happens to be situated in medieval fantasy setting. Don't worry if you've never experienced a Dungeons & Dragons anything; Glen and Drew will walk you through it.

| 0:00.0 | Hi, this is Drew, and you're about to listen to another rerun. |
| 0:04.0 | If you listen to this, you might just realize it's a rerun and stop listening. |
| 0:08.0 | But I suggest you don't do that because I think this is a really good older episode that we did |
| 0:11.6 | that I wanted to resurface for a few reasons. |
| 0:14.1 | Even if I feel like a lot of people who listen to this podcast might not remember there ever |
| 0:19.2 | being a Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. I knew it was |
| 0:21.8 | basically new to me when we recorded this episode. This is an episode about the Dungeons and Dragons |
| 0:27.3 | cartoon that originally aired in the summer of 2019, so a very long time ago. And yes, many things |
| 0:32.9 | have happened since the summer of 2019. But I feel like this episode stands up and stands out in our catalog because I'm really |
| 0:42.0 | proud of the analysis that Glenn and I did on our own, but also just having a conversation |
| 0:47.3 | about the subject matter and visual signifiers. |
| 0:51.8 | And I feel like we make the joke about reach-arounds on this podcast where we're bending |
| 0:56.9 | over backwards to make something fit into a gay narrative. |
| 1:00.0 | And it doesn't always work. |
| 1:01.0 | But in this one, I feel pretty strong about hitting on something that if it wasn't intended, |
| 1:09.9 | then I would feel pretty confident taking it to the people that |
| 1:12.5 | created these characters and telling them, like, you know, you made a gay, right? Like, |
| 1:17.3 | you made a gay character. Also, randomly, I feel like this didn't necessarily come up very much |
| 1:22.6 | in our Happy Days episode, but it is a gay character that is more or less centered around |
| 1:27.1 | the performance of |
| 1:28.2 | Ralph Mouth himself, Don Most, who I don't think is gay and probably didn't envision his |
| 1:35.0 | character being read this way, but I'd be interested to see how he feels about our take on him |
