Hey, drilled listeners. For the last several months, I have been co-hosting the new season

of Scene on Radio, focused on the climate crisis. This season is called The Repair, and

we trace the roots of the climate crisis way back in history, all the way up to current

efforts to obstruct climate action. Then we look at how the climate crisis is playing

out in the global south, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Nigeria, and how one oil-rich

country, Scotland, is taking specific steps to transition away from fossil fuels. We end

with three episodes that look at what might be done about it all. Today, I want to bring

you the first of those episodes, both as a window into the scene on Radio Season and

as something of a preview for a new show that will be launching next year. That show is

called Damages, and it will follow the 200 or so climate cases currently playing out

in courts all over the world. This episode, Pachanama, focuses on the rights of nature movement,

a global push to integrate indigenous approaches to nature and justice into western legal systems

by effectively giving ecosystems rights. We've talked about this in previous episodes on

Drilled and This is a Deeper Dive. Since this episode was released, the Constitutional Court

in Ecuador, that country's equivalent to the US Supreme Court, has handed down a major

ruling in favor of a cloud forest, Lucidros, protecting it from mining.

The entirety of Cyan Radio Season 5 is out now, and I really encourage you to go listen to the whole

thing. If you're new to that show, the three seasons that come before this one are also an

excellent setup for a season about the climate crisis. John Bewin and his two previous co-host
