0:44.2	We haven't heard a lot about colds and flu recently because we all have been so focused on
0:50.0	coronavirus. What has happened to those illnesses while the pandemic has been surging?
0:55.7	Well, that's one of the somewhat secret benefits of this pandemic. We've learned that preventive
1:04.9	measures can help us avoid colds and flu. This year, the flu has been virtually eliminated in the United States. I mean,
1:14.5	if you look at previous years, you see this huge bump in flu cases, nearly 60 million flu cases
1:22.6	each year in the United States. And this year, it's flat. Virtually no one got the flu. And the same is pretty
1:30.8	much true for colds. And although we don't know this for sure, the money is on the fact that
1:38.3	people are wearing masks, they're practicing social distancing, and they're being much more
1:42.7	careful about transmission of airborne
1:45.5	viruses. So if people aren't wearing masks in the future, what can they do to prevent the flu?
1:52.4	Because it seems like everybody's really interested in getting the COVID vaccine and people
1:56.5	have kind of forgotten about that flu vaccine. Well, don't forget about it because the flu vaccine is here this year and we're promoting
2:04.8	it because we really don't know what's going to happen in the coming year.
2:09.4	We were lucky last year that we didn't have a double epidemic, which people were anticipating
