There's got to be more to life than Deliveroo, Netflix, and getting ghosted on the apps.

But is that thing Christianity?

Okay, I am being deliberately facetious.

But with more and more young people losing faith in the promise of liberal capitalist

consumerism and the resurgence of a certain kind of Christianity, are the signs pointing

towards an overall revival of religion?

And does signing up for God mean abandoning reason, science and

tolerance? I'm joined by LaMorna Ash, author of Don't Forget We're Here Forever, to talk about

her exploration of 21st century Christianity. She spent three years going to Bible classes,

Christian retreats, and even the odd nunner the ordinary to find out whether modern life is compatible with the teachings of Christ.

We talk about celibacy, whether you can interpret scripture literally, and whether or not people doing modern religion are in fact just participating in individualist pick and

Thank you for having me. Thank you so much for coming. So your book, don't forget, we're here

forever. It's going to be out by the time this comes out,

but it's not yet. So I'm very excited to be able to talk about it with you. How are you feeling

in this like weird, like, liminal purgatory period before it comes out? Pergatory feels right.

I feel nervous. I had to do the audio book last week, which is like, I don't know if you did yours. Yeah, yeah. It's like a uniquely humiliating moment when you realize you can't pronounce like half the words. Yeah. What was it?

Aesthetic just struggled over that again and again. Apostasy still can't get it. But it meant

like going through it and suddenly realizing the arc of it and being like, as you're writing it,

you have a sense of where you're going. But to hear the whole thing in one go, I think it's so valuable to do, but it's also so strange, but this

weird thing of like this constellation of all these ideas I came up with is now fixed into

something. It's really weird.
