In a survey conducted in 24 countries, the UK has reported the second lowest level of

trust in the media.

And this is something which has been declining year on year since the survey was first

conducted in the 1980s.

So why is that?

So much of our politics is determined by what's on the front page of the Daily Mail or

being reported on BBC News and yet none of us feel we can trust the professionals who

have stewardship of our public conversation to tell us the truth.

I'm here to make sense of the total mess that is UK media and I can think of no one better

to join me than my colleague, my comrade, my brother from another mother, Aaron Verstani.

All right, so when did you first realise that media wasn't living up to its own ideals?

I've probably got an A typical story, but for many people whose parents are immigrants

a typical story.

So my father's Iranian and he isn't the sort of stereotypical conspiracy theorist,

Middle East and Dad who thinks Britain and America are responsible for everything

bad in the world, although he does have his moments, but what he did do when I was young,

there would be the news, right?

It's in the background, six o'clock news, ten o'clock news, and he just said, no, most

of it's just garbage, don't pay attention to it.

And that wasn't in regards to what they said, he wasn't like he had a side, he was just

very skeptical about it, but in quite an informed way, he wasn't saying, oh, they're all just

full of lies, just two sides to every story.
