President Biden is marking his first year in office with stalled accomplishments in

Congress, under water poll numbers, and a public that appears to be a little fed up, whether

with COVID, government dysfunction, or really just anything.

My guest today is Douglas Brinkley.

He's a presidential historian, author of books about FDR, JFK, Gerald Ford, many others,

yes, he occasionally writes about people who weren't presidents, but that's actually not

why he's here today.

I'm here to speak to the presidential historian part of his brain, so Doug Brinkley, welcome

to the Todd cast.

And thank you for having me, Chuck.

So let's put the year in context.

Obviously, a president's legacy is sadly always determined about the real act.

You know, unless you're a real James Polk lover, right?

The one-term president has never seen as successful.

But you look at this first year of his presidency, and it's sort of like, if you look one way,

you're like, boy, he got quite a bit done.

And if you look at the other way, but he had a whole laundry list of promises he made,

and he's made zero progress on some big ones.

Sadie assess it, and what's fair in assessing this first year?

I think January 6, loom so large in the first year, and the fact that Biden had to survive

that ordeal.
