Hello and welcome to Hot Masterpiece Theater, the show where we have highbrow conversations about lowbrow entertainment.

I'm Jolenta Greenberg, a comedian and pop culture critic, and I will be serving as

your reality TV dramaturg. Reminder, a dramaturg is a researcher that works on a theatrical

production to give background information about the show, and a reality TV dramaturg takes

reality TV seriously, like it is serious art, because it is.

It's storytelling.

It's just like every other form of storytelling we've used since the beginning of time,

and the characters we see on reality TV are just as silly and layered and complex as the

ones we find in Greek mythology or Shakespeare.

They just have more makeup on and a few

more cosmetic procedures done. Today we are continuing our journey through archetypes. Reminder,

those are the sort of character blueprints, you know, we're going through the different kinds

of characters you might find on reality TV. This week we are talking about a very fun

archetype. She's a little woo-woo, some might say, the mystic. The mystic is calm and magical.

You know, she's never in a rush. She does things slowly and deliberately in her own time.

She cares about order and thinking things through,

and as her name would imply, the mystic has a deep connection to the divine, to the greater

energy of the universe, some might say. And weirdly her mysticism is deeply tied to her love of domestic

work. You know, she likes to bake and garden and make tinctures in a sort of mystical way. She's very practical magic coded, the mystic. She reminds me of early Erica Jane from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when she was showing off her sort of Gothic chapel.
