| 0:09.2 | Hey friend, it's Kristen. Grab your scriptures, and let's dive into Exodus 19, verse 6 and 20, verse 18. |
| 0:16.6 | When the camp of Israelites arrived at Mount Sinai, Moses went up into the mountain to meet God. |
| 0:21.6 | As Moses stood on the mountain, the Lord told him that he wanted the Israelites to be, quote, |
| 0:25.6 | a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. God's plan for his people was that they not just know about him, but also know him personally. |
| 0:34.6 | This moment was a critical hinge point for the Israelites. They could become |
| 0:39.3 | like God or keep their spiritual distance from him based on how they proceeded. So how did the |
| 0:45.1 | Israelites respond? Quote, and all the people saw the thunderings and the lightnings and the |
| 0:50.3 | noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking. And when the people saw it, they removed and |
| 0:55.7 | stood afar off. They moved further from God instead of drawing as close to him as he invited |
| 1:02.8 | them to be. Do we ever do that? Do we deny ourselves blessings and opportunities the Lord wants to give |
| 1:08.9 | us because we're too comfortable or afraid? |
| 1:11.6 | Do we stand afar off when there's the opportunity to see him face to face? |
| 1:16.6 | Today, let's consider how we've denied ourselves the blessing of communing with God, whether in deeper prayer, more devoted scripture study, or more regular temple attendance. |
| 1:25.6 | And then let's make a change. So when the Lord is near, |
| 1:29.2 | we won't find ourselves standing afar off. So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is |
