I know a lot of you guys who are listening probably grew up in church, or at least you're

familiar with church, but I want you to try something. I want you to imagine that you've never been to church before. You've never once picked up the Bible. In fact, you've never even heard a Bible story in your entire life. And now maybe you're staying at a hotel and you open the drawer and there's a Bible next to the bed and you pick it up and you just crack it open for the very first time and you

have no context of anything that's inside of it. And you start to flip through and you come to

this story about a little shepherd kid named David. And he's brave and he's full of courage and he

loves God and he hears that there's this big giant named Goliath who is mocking his God and

bullying his people. And so he says, despite his

short size and just being a young boy, I will go and I will fight that Goliath in the name of

the reputation of my God. And so he gets this rock in a sling and he defeats. He kills Goliath.

And you hear that story for the first time and you're like, dang,

dude, David, this young boy, he's a savage. This guy had incredible faith. You close your Bible and you go to sleep and you're just kind of reminiscing on how awesome David is and you kind

of look up to him and you're inspired by his faith. Or maybe you crack open the Bible hundreds

of pages later and you read about this guy named Peter who had enough faith to walk on water with Jesus. And you close your Bible and you're like, man, if only I had that kind of faith, the kind of faith of Peter. Or maybe you hear Jesus say to Peter, Peter, you are the rock on which I will build this whole church. And you close your Bible again. you're like, dang, I want to be like Peter. Peter's the man. Peter has so much faith. And you're inspired by

these stories. And so eventually over time, you pick up your Bible and you keep reading about David or

about Peter or about Moses or about Abraham. And you start to see guys like David had a lot of faith

and he also had a massive moral

collapse. Or you hear about Peter who is the rock and who is walking on water and he's also being

called Satan by Jesus at one point. Or Peter who pledges his loyalty to Jesus and says,

Jesus, I will never forsake you. I would never turn my back on you.

And later that night, denies that he even knows Jesus three times. Or Moses, who puts his staff

into the sea and the water split. And you think, man, this guy is a hero. And then he also disobeys God in

its anger. Or Abraham, who takes his one and only son and puts him up on the

altar and says, God, I trust you even in the death of my one and only boy that God, you are
