When the Lord was about to destroy the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, he sent an angel to warn Lot, quote, arise, take

thy wife and thy two daughters, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. While this command was a

warning to get as physically far away as possible, it was likely also a spiritual warning. Lott had chosen to

live near these wicked cities, and he'd even pitched his tent toward Sodom. Perhaps Lott had chosen to live near these wicked cities, and he'd even pitched his tent

toward Sodom. Perhaps Lott had begun to incorporate some of the Sodom lifestyle in his home.

Alexander Pope explained how easy it is to move from tolerating sin to eventually committing it

ourselves, he wrote, VICE is a monster of so frightful mean, as to be hated, needs but to be

seen. Yet seen too oft familiar with her face, we first endure, then pity, then embrace.

Lot was in danger of becoming so familiar with the sins of Sodom that he would first endure,

then pity, then embrace them. Similarly, we are constantly surrounded by temptations and wickedness.

So what are we doing to avoid the slippery slope of familiarity with sin leading to embracing it?

We have to be constantly on our guard so that we, like Lot, won't be consumed in the iniquity of the world.
