Isn't it funny that in the age of achievement and performance and measuring success based on money?

It's so easy to forget the fullness and richness and wholeness of our life experience and the ways that we can

like truly measure success in our lives in a more holistic way. This comes up a lot because often people say to me I haven't had a good year

I didn't get a promotion I haven't saved enough money and they think that as a person then

they're failing or that success somehow is eluding them or that they haven't got life figured out

right now and they need to get back on track.

I love this definition of success from Rolf Waldo Emerson. I remember I read it once it was in a

coffee shop it was on the wall and I took a photo I copied it down and I refer to this

often and I think it is beautiful. I thought I'll read this today on the

pod because maybe this sounds like you, maybe there are areas in your life that you're overlooking or in fact

you're probably very successful and we don't need this tunnel vision of just

measuring it in only one area. So this is what our old friend Ralph has to say about it. To laugh often and much. To win the respect of

intelligent people and the affection of children.

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends.

To appreciate beauty, to find the beauty in others.

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.

To know that one life has breathed easier because you were here.

This is to have succeeded.
