High-tech DNA testing has solved two gruesome crimes that have baffled investigators for nearly three decades,

a murder and a rape, two elderly psych patients on New York's Long Island.

The Suffolk County District Attorney identifying Stephen Brecky as the man who murdered 69-year-old Anne Lustig in 1997

and raped an 82-year-old just months prior.

Breaky was a career criminal whose

rap sheet includes the sex assault of a teenager and a string of public lewdness busts. Lustig,

who was reported missing from the Kings Park State Psychiatric Hospital, was found strangled and beaten

to death in Calverton, February 19, 1997. The murder came just a few months after another patient

from the psychiatric facility, an unidentified 82-year-old woman told staffers at the facility that on December 20th, 1996, she had been raped by a stranger when she went for a walk. The cases went cold until last year when DNA evidence was reprocessed, linking the crimes and singling out Breaky as the suspect. Breaky, though, died 12 years ago.
