This program will represent a continuation of our contending theme.

And that's where we go through each of the 22 positions, starting offense, starting defense,

and try to determine whether or not it's a contender capable in my best mic tomlinism lexicon here,

whether or not they're good enough at that position to contend.

Today's turn goes to the tight ends.

I don't think we're going to have to debate this one, discuss it for very long.

Between Pat Friermouth and what Pat can do, and I emphasize on the word can,

and what Darnell Washington is capable of doing, which are two somewhat different things.

As Pat said to me about a month ago, Pat goes, we kind of each do what the other doesn't.

I kind of like the way he put that.

You have a couple of guys that are not just athletically reliable and everything else,

but are also total professionals and everything.

So what you have,

what you have at the tight end position begins with Pat.

And let's start there.

Pat is a guy who can,

there's that word again, catch the there. Pat is a guy who can, there's that word again, catch the ball.

Pat is a guy who can open the middle of the field for you. Pat is a guy who can. By the way, he's really good at this. Get to the sideline, do sideline routes and make things happen for you

over there where most people aren't

expecting tight ends to wander. He's very good at that. They do so much practicing of that.
