Something terrible is happening down there, though.

Kirk leads a landing party to investigate only to find the lifeless body of Kirk's brother Sam,

William Shatner wearing a fake mustache.

Kirk's sister-in-law and nephew cling to life

and are transported to the enterprise. The landing party meantime discovers swarms of alien parasites

that look like a cross between jellyfish and ravioli. One of the creatures attacks Spock

latching itself to his back, causing him excruciating pain.

The race is on for bones to find a way to kill the creatures and save both Kirk's nephew and

Spock.

Remembering how the Denevin flew into the star, they theorized that sunlight kills the creatures,

so they rig up a test using one of the space ravioli, and it actually

works. So they try it on Spock, leaving him blind due to the bright light. Only then do they realize
