| 0:27.6 | And this experience, the dedication, the practice of samadhi, |
| 0:36.6 | lies at the heart of Buddhist meditation practice. |

| 0:48.0 | and to the development of mindfulness itself, Bipassana itself, |
| 0:55.0 | that mindfulness and vipasana are not the same thing. |
| 1:01.0 | Mindfulness is a practice and vipassana is a consequence of that practice. |
| 1:07.0 | The word vipasana refers to the deep insights, liberating insights that can come |
| 1:13.2 | when the practice of mindfulness is co-joined, is united with a strong, stable, steady, focused, |
| 1:25.6 | still attention when it's combined with samadhi. |
| 1:32.3 | And so in the way the Buddha taught samadhi, |
| 1:39.3 | it's always, there's always preparation for it. There's not a direct frontal assault on samadhi, |
| 1:50.7 | and not a few people, maybe highly idolistic or will learn about meditation, learn about |
| 1:59.1 | samadhi, and say, by golly, I'm going to do this. |
| 2:04.6 | And there's a story of the kind of fable of a very capable young man who's successful at school, |
| 2:15.1 | successful in sports, successful in many different areas of life, very capable, |
| 2:21.4 | who for some reason decides to address his suffering by going to a monastery, to practice. |
| 2:28.4 | And he asks the abbess, you know, explains the abbess, you know, I'm quite dedicated, I learn quickly, I'm skilled |
| 2:37.2 | in many things, and I can really apply myself. I have a dedication, I have discipline, |
| 2:45.9 | and if I come to the monastery to live here to practice, how long will it take to become enlightened? |
