On Thursday afternoon, Dusty May and Michigan men's basketball officially announced the program's new assistant coaches.

It's a fascinating blend of individuals who certainly come from different backgrounds,

coaching trees, experience with and without Coach May.

Drew Williamson and Kyle Church, they come to Ann Arbor straight from Boca Raton like Dusty.

Akeem Miscadine, he was with the FAU staff during Dusty's first three seasons at the helm

before he branched off to Mike White's staffs at both Florida and Georgia.

Of course, Dusty May and Mike White have plenty of history together.

While Justin Joyner, he's been at St. Mary's his entire collegiate coaching career, and he's

been in California pretty much his entire life. We'll get to know all of those newcomers to

Ann Arbor here in the coming weeks on Defend the Block, but we kick things off in terms of the

introductions to the new staff members with the first hire that was reported on a few weeks back.

Shortly after being let go

as the head coach of Oklahoma State, Mike Boynton Jr. accepted Dusty May's offer to join him

with the Mays in Blue. Mike and Dusty don't know each other as well as Dusty knows, Akeem,

or Drew, or Kyle, but it certainly seems like their approach to coaching and to relationship

building is a perfect match.

Dusty May has said, you can't rush relationship building, certainly a unique dynamic

considering where the Wolverines have to go with their roster in the coming weeks.

But Mike Boynton, Jr. seemed to have a similar approach, and his finest hour in that

department when it comes to college coaching

and recruiting, that was bringing Cade Cunningham to Stillwater. When Cunningham led Oklahoma State to its

best season under Coach Boynton, 21 and 9 in that bubble season of 2021, a trip to the Big 12
