Summary

Gene and Randall discuss paranormal matters and other subjects with long-time skeptical writer/researcher Benjamin Radford, author of “Big-If True: Adventures in Oddity,” a compendium of several dozen columns from Skeptical Inquirer science magazine, where he is a deputy editor. The topics he explores include urban legends, the paranormal, the tale of an alleged walking tree, fake cures, critical thinking, media literacy and even whether a certain well-known online dating service uses scientific methods to screen it’s applicants. The discussion also includes the possible efficacy of nutritional supplements and even Gene’s personal experiences with one of these alleged remedies. Ben is also a member of the American Folklore Society, the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, and the American College of Forensic Examiners International.

So before our episode began, this is our last episode for 2020 for listeners, we were talking briefly,

0:40.0

very briefly, with our guest, Benjamin Radford. And I was saying that maybe he briefly showed

0:47.4

his face because he wanted to show that his video works and that human being is there. I suggested

0:53.6

maybe he's being possessed

0:54.8

1:32.5

You know, don't worry about Warp 8.

1:34.5

Just go into the Stargate and in a moment you're at the other end.

1:39.5

Never think of a Stargate is a great way to travel, Ben?

1:43.5

Yeah, you know, it would just save so much time and effort, unless, of course, there's

1:47.6

really unpleasant side effects, long-term diarrhea, for example, migraines.

1:53.6

As long as there's no serious side effects, I'm all for it.

1:56.8

Well, it didn't appear that there were.

2:00.0

And, of course, the one thing they didn't address in the episodes that I was watching, actually rewatching, because I had seen many years ago, one of the things they didn't really address that much is what happens if there's a fly mixed?

2:14.7

No, it doesn't work that way because four people five people 10 people can go into

2:19.9

the gate at once and be reassembled on the other side of the receiving star gates you have to

2:27.2

have one that's a transmitter and one that's a receiver or vice versa you can't just go into space
