Those with chronic diseases that need regular medication can be cut off from that life-giving

remedy and detainee complaints over health concerns are often

dismissed or ignored by those working in jails.

When it comes to mental health issues, issues that may have led to circumstances that led to

detention incarceration is prioritized over those health concerns which have

at times led to the detainee committing suicide as you might remember was the case with the late Sandra Bland.

In fact the majority of those who die in jail are not convicted of a crime.

They are merely being held on charges on allegations they committed a crime,

often unable to afford bail.

Meanwhile, with jail deaths increasing since 2009,

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wants to limit jail releases in overcrowded jails, even during a pandemic, as well as required

bail for those alleged to have committed a violent crime, both of which can lead to more detainee

deaths in jail.

And it's not like Texas County jails are lacking oversight.

They are keenly aware from countless reports of the problems

with physical and mental health care in their jails.

The real problem is there is no enforcement

especially by the Texas Rangers and jailers are rarely if ever held accountable

for their mistreatment, brutality, and cruelty toward detainees.
