Summary

Here's some old-fashioned, good ol' Grateful Dead for you..

This week from September 18, 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City.. we have a partial soundboard tape that has somehow survived these years to bring  us back to what it was like to hear the boys in that magical space.

The first two songs, Truckin' and Black Peter, are from the acoustic set - with Pigpen on piano on Truckin' and David Nelson mandolin on Black Peter...

The end of the electric set which we have here is blessed with a rare 'Operator' and two really well jammed out numbers - Dancin' in the Streets and Good Lovin'.

This is a beautiful recording .. soak it up.

Hello and welcome to Deadpod for the week of September 26, 2025. This is a professor. I'm so glad

0:05.4

you could pick us up this week. This week, I was in the mood for some good old Grateful Dead,

0:10.1

so I'm going to play you something from the magical year in 1970. A year we don't have a lot of great

0:17.6

tapes of their shows from. However, we have a partial tape here from a concept that took

0:24.0

place on September the 18th, 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York, New York. Apparently,

0:29.5

there were a number of sets around this time where the stage hands at the Fillmore set up

0:34.5

reel-to-rele decks under the stage to surrepetitiously make soundboard tapes.

0:39.4

All we have of this show is what I'm going to include tonight, which is the last two songs,

0:44.7

The Acoustic Set, Truckin' and Black Peter, and then the end of the electric set with me and my

0:50.5

uncle, a rare operator, dancing in the street, St. Steven's in to not fade away,

0:54.9

a great good loving, and a short, and we bid you good night. Apparently, pig pens playing piano

1:00.8

on Truckin and David Nelson's mandolin on the Black Peter. The recording is surprisingly wonderful

1:07.0

for that many years ago. And to me, it's a joy to be able to hear some of these

1:12.1

tunes, especially operator. I haven't heard that one in a soundboard live setting in quite a while.

1:17.6

So I really enjoyed that. I hope you enjoy it too. Thanks so much for picking us up this week.

1:23.6

And for your support of the Deadpot, I couldn't do it without you. And happy to still be here spinning these tunes, and I'm glad you're listening.

1:33.1

So hope you're doing well.

1:34.9

Hope to see you back here next week.

1:36.3

This is a professor you're listening to The Deadpod.

1:45.0

Whoop! The problem might be that the bikes are all right to the same system that the position is all right?

1:59.0

Yeah, the guys say louder.

2:01.6

Yeah, make it really loud out there.
