Summary

This week the Deadpod travels to January of 1980 for an unusual benefit show that the Dead appeared at for Cambodian refugees in Oakland, along with Jefferson Starship, the Beach Boys and Carlos Santana and John Cippolina.

This is a tight and well played set throughout. The opening 'Jack Straw' into 'Franklin's Tower' is crisp and edgy. 'Minglewood' is a standout as well. I really enjoy all of these, but the 'Playin' is probably the highlight, although the Santana solo in 'Not Fade Away' is a treat as well; its interesting to hear these three great guitarists playing together..

It is with some sadness that I have to announce that this will be the last Deadpod for some time... I'm scheduled for open heart surgery next week and I'm not sure when I'll be able to be back here sharing these great songs with you. Don't give up on me as I don't plan to give up.. I'll be back as soon as I am able but in the meantime I'd encourage you to listen to some of the old Deadpods - the entire run is still available..

0:14.0	in Oakland, California. This was a Sunday night. It was a benefit for
0:18.2	Cambodian refugees. The dead were one of several groups on the bill.
0:23.5	They played one long set, which is what we're going to hear today.
0:26.9	It starts out with a good and very nice jackstraw into Franklin's Tower.
0:30.3	Nice transition there, and I always enjoyed those standalone Franklin's. A good New Minglewood. Nice, playing in the band into drums into not fade away into Sugar Magnolia.
0:44.7	Now during Not Fade Away in Sugar Magnolia, Carlos Santana and John Chippelina,
0:51.1	guest appearances with some nice guitar solos in those two songs.
0:55.8	So I really hope you enjoy this one.
0:58.6	This one's a single set and sad to say this will be the last dead pod for a little while.
