Here's a treat to help you celebrate - the final performance of the Grateful Dead at the Fillmore West bck on July 2, 1971.

This fine recording captures the energy and enthusiasm of their performance that night. These first set songs are shorter, as was the norm during 1971but nevertheless I'm certain you'll enjoy them. Standouts include a great 'Me & Bobby McGee', a really fun version of 'The Rub', a somewhat slower 'Deal' and fo course the set-closing 'Good Lovin'. We'll have the second set next week..

0:00.0	Hello and welcome the Dead Pod for the 4th of July, July 4th, 2025. This is a professor, so glad you could pick us up this week.
0:08.4	Hope you're having a fine Independence Day and a fine Independence Day weekend. And to celebrate, we're going to bring you a show from way back in 1971. But from the first week of July, this comes to us from the closing of the Fillmore West,
0:23.6	the last time that Grateful to have played there, July the 2nd, 1971. We'll hear a set one this
0:29.4	week and set two next week. Set one starts off. These are all rather short energetic versions.
0:36.6	That's the way they structured this first sets in early 71.
0:42.2	And many of the songs were fairly new, especially new to the audience.
0:49.4	And this was originally, I think, broadcast as an FM broadcast, and a tape of that came out,
0:56.1	and for the first time, people heard a lot of these songs.
0:59.1	But I think you'll quite enjoy it.
